What is a Kobot?

Kobots is short for Synthetic Kobolds. You might also see them called Synthbolds.

Concept

Synthetic Kobolds

Kobots combine artificial intelligence with a synthetic body based on the mythical kobold. They aren’t meant to look human, but they have enough familiar features to work in everyday spaces.

Their small size makes them useful in confined spaces and cheaper to build than larger industrial synthetics.

Design intent

Built for small spaces

Spaceborne work and the narrow corridors of starships helped shape the Kobot concept. Their roles extend to agricultural fields, mining tunnels, shops, households, and safety inspection.

They’re designed to be repaired and modified, with support for replacement parts and third-party components. Colors, shapes, and sizes can vary.

Characters

Making your own Kobot

Flosk is the company mascot for KOR/KORE. She’s the only Synthetic Kobold.

If you want to make your own Kobot, go for it! The lore is here if you’d like to follow it, but you’re welcome to bring your own ideas too.

Chassis types

I listed four chassis types in the old species wiki. Some of these were still rough ideas, especially the military and experimental types.

Chassis families in the original species wiki
ChassisIdentifierRole in the setting
Production civilianK6The most widespread chassis on Koishuma.
Pre-productionD1–D5Five reserved units intended for story development.
MilitaryM7A named chassis category whose specifications were left unfinished.
Experimental00Nanotechnology research using a modified civilian form. Its place in canon remains provisional.

Model numbers

The old model-number scheme combines a manufacturer prefix, a three-character production-date code, a two-character chassis identifier, and a four-digit serial number.

The month runs from 0 for January to B for December; the following two characters encode the day in hexadecimal. The scheme does not include a year. The original wiki reserves serials 0000, 0001, 0002, and 5526.
